Beyond Skiing: The Natural and Cultural Wonders of Chamonix

Attention, ski enthusiasts! Chamonix is renowned for its fantastic skiing – and for good reason! However, this means that its other wonderful attractions are frequently overlooked. You’ve just stepped off your shuttle from Geneva to Chamonix… now how about something a little different? For something distinctly non-touristy yet incredibly worthwhile, why not wander off the beaten skiing track and try some of these alternative activities?
Natural Highlights

Visit the Mer de Glace

At 200m deep, this is France’s largest glacier. It flows 7km down Mont Blanc’s northern side, moving at a rate of up to 1cm an hour or 90m per year. The ‘Sea of Ice’ is stunning to behold, and after the 430 steps that lead into the grotto, you’ll see some of the best crystal specimens in the Mont Blanc massif. It is reachable by the Train du Montenvers, a picturesque cog railway that will bring you to an altitude of 1913m, from where you can access the Grotte de Glace by cable car. The entry price also gains you access to the Glacorium, which examines the birth, life and future of glaciers – so hold on to your ticket!

Take the Cable Car to the Aiguille du Midi

Rising to 3842m at its peak, the Aiguille du Midi is perhaps Chamonix’s most noteworthy geographical feature. If the altitude doesn’t put you off, you’ll be rewarded with 360-degree panoramic views of the French, Italian and Swiss Alps, which will literally take your breath away.

You can take the cable car Téléphérique de l’Aiguille du Midi all year round, and the journey itself is quite spectacular. Either hop out halfway at Plan de l’Aiguille to begin hiking or paragliding, or continue to the top for views in every direction, thanks to the glass floor of the ‘Step into the Void’ attraction.

Be aware that even in summer, it will be only be about -10°C at the summit, while temperatures can plummet as low as -25°C in winter.

How to Use Yelp to Improve Your Local Search Rank

How to Use Yelp to Improve Your Local Search Rank

You know that online reviews impact on your bottom line.

No doubt you’ve heard that word of mouth is the best marketing strategy but lately, almost 80% of consumers trust online reviews as if they were a recommendation from a trusted friend.

Over the years, more people turn to them to get the final word on whether they can trust the business or not.

For local businesses, this fact is even more important – moreover, about 50% of mobile searches are local.

Make sense; When you’re out and about and you need to find a place nearby, you’ll turn on your phone and then assess where to go with its reviews.

So how can you make that work for you? One of the answers is to incorporate Yelp into your SEO strategy. How to Use Yelp to Improve Your Local Search Rank

Not sure where to start? We’ve got you covered.

Here’s how to think like a local SEO company when it comes to yelp.

Optimize Your Site For Yelp
Recently, Yelp launched a new penalty targeting websites that are not mobile-friendly.

If you want to pay attention to Yelp, you must make sure that your website is optimized for mobile search and Yelp.

Here are some tips:

No pop-ups – Make sure there are no pop ups that include content on your main page
The ad folds above – Do not get your clients looking for content
Interstitials – If your site shows interstitials that your users should refuse to go to the main page, Yelp will punish you.
Doing these things will make your site more user-friendly and keep you in good Yelp’s grace. How to Use Yelp to Improve Your Local Search Rank

Do not Request Reviews
Many good, and good reviews help your site rank; any local SEO company can tell you that.

The important thing to remember when getting a review on Yelp is to grow your review organically.

Believe it or not, Yelp will punish you if they suspect you are trying to improve your review.

For example, reviewers determine review ratings.

If the reviewer’s account is new and they barely review anything, Yelp will suspect it as a dummy account and demotivate you.

Same thing if a bunch of reviews come in at the same time.

If you send bulk emails to your subscribers to send reviews and all of a sudden, Yelp gets a ton of them at once, your views will be penalized.

Growing the reviews organically How to Use Yelp to Improve Your Local Search Rank
So how can you improve your SEO ranking by yelp organically?

Purchase Online Vehicle Insurance Policy

Purchase Online Vehicle Insurance Policy

A few decades ago, car insurance was not needed; it is up to the individual to decide whether they want to be insured or not. However, today, vehicle insurance is a car owner’s requirement. The owner of the vehicle, whether simple or luxurious, needs a car coverage policy. Get our offer today and check Good to go insurance at an incredible price.

Purchase Online Vehicle Insurance Policy

The public’s attitude towards purchasing coverage has changed significantly over time. Years ago, getting vehicle insurance was as simple as contacting a local agent and demanding a policy. However, the process is slightly changed: You now have many options to choose the specific plan that best suits your vehicle insurance needs.

You might be better off by passing local agents and getting direct access to the company via the internet, but you should be prepared to handle almost any task by yourself. This will require comparison of various policy providers; packages, rates, and size. Then, now you can discuss with companies that you feel most comfortable. In the event of an accident, you are saved from the many pressures and problems under the Go car insurance company with significant accountability coverage. Good2go insurance will help you save more in the future.

While some insurance companies do not require clients to work with their agents, some companies do not employ agents. Online purchases are your best bet, especially when you mostly meet tight daily schedules and require low-cost vehicle insurance. Direct online purchases of insurance plans help you bypass the commissions you should pay to agents. However, if you do not know your vehicle insurance needs, you can make the wrong decision in buying online coverage without a representative’s guidance.

Choosing the Right Insurance Policy Purchase Online Vehicle Insurance Policy

After choosing the insurance company of your choice, you should also choose a policy that suits your needs. Three popular types of plans are traditional car insurance, Usage-based vehicle insurance, and Per-mile Vehicle insurance.

1. Traditional Auto Insurance Here, policy quotes are determined by the insurance company and with the help of policyholder information such as customer age, driving records, credit score, and gender. The more you are exposed to risk, the higher the level of insurance you have to pay. You can, however, request the lowest policy rate under state law, or better yet, choose from an extensive list of various vehicle insurance coverage. Regardless of a particular category, you can rest, assure the Good 2 go Insurance commitment to give you the best policy that suits your insurance demand.

2. Car insurance based on usage

Contrary to traditional Motor Vehicle Insurance, a car-based auto insurance company provides car insurance for you, by monitoring your real actions. To get a quote on Good2 go insurance based on Vehicle insurance type, you will be prompted for plug-in telematics devices. This device is meant to record your driving ways and attitudes, especially your unacceptable driving habits such as breaking and acceleration.

If the device records indicate that your driving way comes with low risk, vehicle-based usage insurance lets you save more money. However, if the device notes that you are usually on the road at night or with a fast driver, you may not be able to save on your car insurance. In addition, many insurance-based vehicle insurance plans may not be found in all states. So you may have to replace your insurance company if you move to another country where insurance plans are not available.

3. Car insurance per mile

This insurance plan also involves the use of telematic devices, but unlike Usage-based insurance, Par-mile car insurance focuses on one thing, the frequency of your vehicle usage. Just like use-based, car insurance per mile is not available in most states; because this is a new program. Of all the service providers, Metromile is the most prominent vehicle carrier per mile and currently has services spread across seven states including Illinois, Washington, Virginia, Oregon, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and California.

To determine your insurance rate, coverage providers per mile also use similar elements as in the case of assurances

Great news for the Galapagos Penguin

Great news for the Galapagos Penguin

The Galapagos Islands wildlife has fascinated us ever since the naturalist Charles Darwin brought them to the attention of the world through his remarkable journey of discovery in the early 1800s. His research in the archipelago forms the basis of what has become his revolutionary theory of natural election.
In subsequent years, this offshore island group of Ecuador has become a popular place for ecotourism. There are several places on Earth that offer such insights into our natural world intrigue and, for wildlife enthusiasts, the Galapagos vacation can be one of their most memorable life experiences. Great news for the Galapagos Penguin

Among the unique endemic species, the rare and endangered Galapagos Penguin is one of the most sought-after sightings. By 2017, after decades of declining population, researchers have seen a spurt in bird growth, and there appears to be some good news for the most endangered penguin species on the planet – and that’s also good news for wildlife lovers who visit the Galapagos holiday area. Great news for the Galapagos Penguin

A bonanza breeding

The reason for buying gold recently did not result in an overnight success. Many bird nests that have been used for the last 40 years have been destroyed by floods or followed by the Sea Iguanas. So, in 2010, a team of researchers from the University of Washington began working on a project that included the construction of 120 artificial penguin nests, with the goal of providing as many opportunities as possible to breed for the species.

The nest is made by digging the tunnel into the lava landscape, or by lava plate accumulation. The nest has been dubbed “penguin condo” and has been built on three island islands: Isabela, Bartolomé and Fernandina. The aim of the researcher is to ensure that when food availability is abundant (when the breeding is most likely to occur), the birds have access to a safe nest to protect their eggs and keep them cool.

The nest is monitored twice a year and in the last visit by researchers, the number of teenage penguins is more visible – and, in fact, they account for about 45% of the total population.

Current events

The increase in breeding is directly correlated with La Niña weather events, which bring rich and nutrient rich flows into the seas around the archipelago. In recent years the El Niño event (which brought the current slower and warmer, created a scarcity of food sources), consequently for the penguin population has been devastating. It is estimated that there are less than half of these days as in the 1979-73 and 1982-83 pre-El Niño years. Great news for the Galapagos Penguin

By providing a means for species to utilize favorable nesting conditions, artificial nests have played an important role in the regeneration of this population. In the hope of another La Niña in the spring of 2018, it is hoped that this breeding crush will continue and increase further. The Galapagos Conservancy has supported this program since 2013, and the body recognizes the valuable work of this dedicated group of researchers. Their long-term goal is to increase the population to a certain point so as to survive the adverse climate fluctuations, and representatives will return to the islands in February 2018 to examine the nest and share their findings.

A privilege of experience

For wildlife enthusiasts who visit the region on the Galapagos holidays, it is still a privilege and an unforgettable experience to see species in their natural habitat. In the coming years, the population can regain its prevalence over the last few decades – proving that in some cases, human intervention can be positive rather than harm world wildlife.

French Cruise Secrets: Marne River

French Cruise Secrets: Marne River

River Marne has inspired artists, such as Cézanne and Pissarro, for many years, and continues to inspire everyone who meets today. Barging vacations in France are an ideal way to experience the rich history of Marne, as well as learn more about technical accomplishments that help make it an important trade route across the country. French Cruise Secrets: Marne River
To the Seine: The River Marne Basics

The French waterway is 514 kilometers long and starts in the Langres highlands. The river headed west, joining the famous Seine Seine in the upper reaches of Paris. On its way through the French countryside, Marne passes through a captivating location like Meaux – famous for its ‘Prince of Cheese’ brie – and Jouarre village, home to a stunning 12th century Benedictine monastery. Along with its centuries-old heritage, this French region has an impressive wine-growing tradition. French Cruise Secrets: Marne River

The oldest lotus in France?

The Canal de Cornillon at Meaux was built about 800 years ago at the beginning of the 13th century. This canal is the oldest in France and built as a 500m short cut, bypassing a very generous watering river. In the nineteenth century, Marne became an important trade route, connecting Paris with the eastern rivers, therefore many lateral canals were built to aid its navigation. The most impressive canal is the 64-kilometer Canal latéal à la Marne, which handles a height difference of over 30 meters with 15 keys.

What to Look For in Barge Vacations in France

If you are lucky enough to sail along Marne during your barge vacation in France, there are some sites you should not miss. The countryside around the river was very important in the second world war. In fact, Château-Thierry – best known for its multiple war graves and warnings – is at the center of the last German attack on WW1. Visit the funeral that runs in Belleau Wood, which was established in honor of the 4th Marine Brigade of the 2nd Army Division of the U.S. The remains of the nearby trenches and shell holes serve as a visual reminder of the battles that occurred in this area.

With a lighter note, you should visit the delightful city of Epernay – the Champagne capital (the drink!). The famous Avenue de Champagne is lined with impressive mansions and is home to the region’s most prestigious wine producers, if not the world. You’ll find people like Moët et Chandon, Mercier, Veuve Clicquot, Pol Roger and de Castellane. As you roam around town remember that over 200 underground cave miles are under your feet. Sprinkled with some of the world’s most whiny bubbly, some of these cellars are open for tours, a wonderful introduction to the Champagne magic world.

Perhaps this glimpse of Marne River culture and history has encouraged you to venture into its waters for the next barge vacation in France. French Cruise Secrets: Marne River

Humboldt Current: blood from the Galapagos Islands

Humboldt Current: blood from the Galapagos Islands

The uniqueness of life on the Galapagos Islands is well documented and, for nature lovers, a visit to this region can be an inspiring and life-changing experience. For those who embark on the Galapagos wildlife voyage, understanding the reasons behind its extreme diversity can contribute to a deeper appreciation of this remarkable part of the world.
Natural phenomena Humboldt Current: blood from the Galapagos Islands

There is one natural phenomenon that can take great credit for the abundance and diversity of marine and terrestrial animals in the archipelago. The cool Humboldt now comes from Antarctica, driven by strong winds to flow to the west coast of South America and push the cool waters toward the path through the Galapagos Islands. It brings with it the nutrients it collects from dead and rotten objects on the seafloor, and when mixed with the warm Southern Equatorial currents, these nutrients rise from deep to maintain the plankton that form the basis of the food chain on the island. .

This current affects every aspect of life, both on land and around the ocean.

Water Temperature: Some people who visit Galapagos wildlife voyage are stunned by the cold water temperature, due to the Humboldt current. June to December is when the ocean is the coldest, because these months are marked by rising currents. From November to May, the flow is still there, but significantly weaker, allowing warmer waters to reach the islands. Humboldt Current: blood from the Galapagos Islands

Weather Pattern: The current is also responsible for two different seasons experienced in the archipelago: cool winters and warmer monsoon seasons. In the dry months (from June to October), strong trade winds cause currents to rise. Because the waters around the island are cooler, less evaporation, and therefore fewer rain clouds are formed. While Galapagos wildlife cruises can be enjoyed at any time of the year, two seasons can offer a very different experience.

Wild Animals: Even beyond these remote islands, Humboldt’s presence can be felt and credited as “the world’s most productive sea eco system” – responsible for 20% of the world’s amazing marine catch. Every single species – reptiles, mammals, birds, invertebrates or marine – on every single island, including the surrounding waters, is influenced by and dependent on this strong current. Nutrient waters that are brought directly or indirectly provide a source of food that supports large wildlife populations. Humboldt Current: blood from the Galapagos Islands

El Niño Effect

Current current effects may be most clearly visible when nonexistent. During a weather phenomenon known as El Niño, it is attenuated by warmer winds and decreases in air pressure. During these times, which occur cyclically every two to seven years, there is a marked decrease in the activity of local wildlife breeding. There are much fewer fish, and therefore a very large source of food in the archipelago, resulting in large numbers of animals starving to death.

The complex and definitive role played by these cold ocean currents in maintaining the rich biodiversity of the islands is an interesting aspect of one of the most interesting places on the planet. Humboldt Current: blood from the Galapagos Islands

Snowy Shenanigans in Courchevel: Guide of Resort

600 km from the skiable domain at Three Valleys makes it a world-class and unique ski destination. With pistes for skiers of all abilities, fantastic snow conditions, well-connected ski areas and assorted slopes, Three Valleys has something for everyone. And if there is one resort that exemplifies all these qualities, it is Courchevel. Famous for having the most diverse skis in Three Valleys, some of the best snow and fantastic and catered self-service ski lodges, Courchevel is the perfect resort for activities both on and off the runway. Snowy Shenanigans in Courchevel: Guide of Resort
Courchevel 1300

Also known as Le Praz, this village is the lowest in altitude in Courchevel. It is also the oldest – with its many rural buildings dating from the nineteenth century. Traditional, quiet and friendly, it offers beautiful views of the trees when the snow is nice. But you have to spend some time in good conditions – when the warm weather comes, you run the risk of snow and slopes that rarely scatter with rocks. On the other hand, this village is perfect for those who want a peaceful traditional break in true mountain communities. Staying in 1300 can also be a cheaper way to access a higher resort.

Courchevel 1550

This is the satellite village for Courchevel 1850, which is above it. The two elevators provide easy access to the higher city, but do not worry stuck – the way back is a gentle blues. For a serious nightlife, you have to travel to the valley until 1850, because this is a quiet place. However, for those looking for access to all that 1850 has to offer at a much better price, the 1550 is the ideal choice.

Courchevel 1650

Arguably the best choice of all the villages in this resort, 1650 is popular because of its fantastic skiing, relatively reasonable prices and a wide array of après activities. Divided by a path that leads up the mountain, this village offers apartment blocks on one side and self-catering and catered ski huts on the other. Just above the village, there is a slope stretch that is easy for beginners to find their feet. For the more experienced skiers, there are many challenges in the winding red and blue that lead out of the Signal chair.

Courchevel 1850

Famous for its opulence and luxury, the 1850’s are where the rich and famous in the world come to ski. To make it happen, this small part of the resort offers nine 5 star hotels … What’s more, the promise of skiing does not disappoint. At the highest altitude, the 1850 offers the best access to all the other villages, as well as the neighboring valley of Méribel. There is a wide zone just above the village specially reserved for beginners, while climbing the mountain you will find some serious red and black trails. Only the most experienced skiers should try the black running Grand Couloir – labeled ‘vertical’ on the runway map for a reason …

Make Your Choice

Whichever village you choose, all have the added benefit of offering fantastic accommodation options, such as self-catered and catered ski cottages. With your accommodation sorted and all snow but guaranteed a good deal, the scenery is set for a perfect winter break.

Belinda Smythson works for Ski Amis, a specialist ski travel agency and booking service that has helped avid skiers in their perfect winter break for more than a quarter of a century.
